ISPS (International Ship and Port Facility Security Code)

What is ISPS code?
After the September 11 incidents, the whole world has become aware of the fact that terrorism is a global problem and that the countries have to fight this problem in a coordinated way. Accordingly, the Marine Security Committee (MSC) was empowered by the International Marine Organization (IMO) to take new measures for the security of the vessels and the port premises in order to to prevent the terrorist actions which may occur on board while sailing and which may come from the sea.

International Ship and Port Facility Security Code (ISPS CODE) was developed by the Marine Security Committee (MSC) in a way to include the new rules for preventing the terrorist actions which may occur on board while sailing and come from the sea and the new measures for the security of ships and port premises.
The concept of security was introduced to the marine industry by the International Ships and Port Facility Security Code (ISPS CODE) which entered into force as of July 1, 2004, and new arrangements were made by IMO for the marine security, including the vessels and port facilities.

The responsibility that is imposed by the ISPS CODE, which was developed to ensure all kinds of security of ports and ships and approved by the International Marine Organization (IMO) as well, is shared by the terminal operators, ship owners and cargo transporters. The ISPS CODE provides for the inclusion of all IMO Member States and maritime companies in the system and its areas of concern include the ship and port security, installation and control of a security system, and controlling entry and exit of cargos.

According to the decisions of IMO (International Maritime Organization), a number of maritime safety measures entered into force since November 2001.
Ship and Port Facility Security Code was issued by IMO Security Committee and sub-working groups.
The SOLAS Chapter XI - 2 (measures to enhance maritime security) and the ISPS code were established.
The ISPS code was accepted at the 2002/2004 IMO Diplomatic Conferences.

IMO Requirements
Samsunport has "ISPS Safety Certificate" in compliance with the IMO requirements.

Security

Samsunport Liman İşletmeleri completed the procedures for International Ship and Port Facility Security Code (ISPS CODE) as of 17.03.2011 and obtained the ISPS CODE Certificate of Conformity in line with the Port Security Plan it submitted to the Undersecretariat of Maritime Affairs. In maintaining the port security accordingly, it implements the rules set out in the Samsunport Port Facility Security Plan approved by Undersecretariat of Maritime Affairs.
